Local authorities do provide grants under ECO Flex system, whereby funding is available for households that are in fuel poverty and will struggle to heat their homes. Funding in some instances may also be available for homes that do not currently have a gas supply and need to be hooked up the mains in order to take advantage of any central heating grants available.

Free Heating Grants are open to homeowners or tenants (but not those in local authority/housing association homes). You, or someone who is registered as living at your address, need to currently be receiving at least one of the qualifying benefits.

Free Heating Grants are funded from the Government’s ECO3 Scheme which aims to help households that might struggle to heat their homes, as well as assisting in reducing overall carbon emissions. It would not normally cover additional costs such as if a gas main had to be connected to your home, but funding for this is sometimes available from some local authorities.

Although the ECO Scheme doesn’t cover the cost of running a gas supply to your home, some local councils may be able to contribute towards the cost. Where this is not possible, you may still be able to benefit from the scheme, with a free upgrade to your current heating system.
